Initial Consultations

We educate, we advise, but most importantly, we listen.

Some treatments require an initial consultation. Why is this?

As a medical aesthetic clinic; we aim to achieve a clinical outcome that changes the way your skin functions and/or the way you look, subtly and naturally.

Your face is important. We believe there is no place in the medical aesthetics space for buyers-remorse or feeling poorly informed.

There are many ways to achieve a desired outcome, some more suitable for you than others.

We strongly believe that individual, personalised consultations result in a better outcome for you as a patient than taking a friend’s advice or doing a Google search.

Dr Sarah Boxley

At SkinBox, you will be fully informed of pre- and post-treatment care to optimise results and of any downtime so that you can plan treatments that fit in with your lifestyle and social/work life.

For some treatments, an initial consultation is a legal requirement – From 1st October 2016, Medical Board (AHPRA) guidelines (regarding the provision of cosmetic procedures) require that a consultation is performed, followed by a “cooling-off” period, prior to any cosmetic treatment.

At SkinBox, your safety is paramount and we fully endorse and adhere to these guidelines.

Who should I see for my initial consultation?

The many different options available for aesthetic treatments can be confusing, and you may be unsure who is the best member of our team to help you with your skin concerns. Our Patient Coordinators are here to guide you in the right direction, so please give us a ring or use the chat function on the website to directly contact our team.

Generally, an Initial Consultation with one of our doctors is to discuss injectable options such as anti-wrinkle injections, dermal filler, PDO threads and fat-dissolving. Our Medical Director, Dr. Sarah Boxley will also help you with advice about deep skin treatments such as fractional CO2 laser for resurfacing/acne scarring, and surgical options (eg blepharoplasty).

An Initial Consultation with one of our Dermal Therapists is a better option if you would like to discuss skin quality (eg pigmentation, redness), non-invasive treatments such as dermal needling, CoolPeel®, Tixel® or IPL, and for skincare advice.

What happens in an initial consultation?

Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment time, so you can complete any additional paperwork before your consultation.

You can relax in our comfortable waiting lounge while our Patient Co-ordinators serve you a fresh coffee or a cool drink.

In your consultation, your Doctor or Dermal Therapist will take time to discuss your medical history, medications (please bring a list with you if necessary), previous treatments and your current skincare routine.

Next, we will deep-dive into your wants, needs and expectations formulating a treatment plan that takes into account your lifestyle, timeline and budget.

You can take a written copy of this home after the consult so that you can absorb it fully in your own time.

In some cases, same-day treatments may be available but there is no pressure to go ahead on the day or to buy products if you are not ready.

In some consultations – (eg regarding hyperpigmentation or prior to injectables) we will take some clinical images of your skin or face. These are stored securely as part of your medical records and are subject to our strict Privacy Policy.

If your consultation is regarding a treatment or solution for an area that includes your face, please do not wear makeup to your appointment (untinted moisturiser & sunscreen are fine) – we can’t give you the best advice about your skin if we can’t see it!

Please ask the Patient Coordinator for make-up remover prior to your appointment if needed.

What is the difference between a Skincare Audit & a SkinBar consult?

Skincare Audit is an in-depth consultation with one of our Dermal Therapists to rationalise your current skincare & identify any areas for improvement. It includes a skin analysis so that we can work out the most appropriate active ingredients for you. An Audit is for people who have lots of different products at home and are not sure which of them are best for their current skin health. There is a small cost for this appointment. Please do not wear makeup or tinted moisturiser.

SkinBar Consult is a skin analysis with one of our Dermal Therapists to prescribe and supply the correct skincare for your needs. We will custom-make your serums in-clinic during your appointment. Please do not wear makeup or tinted moisturiser. This can also be carried out remotely via the Skin Analysis Portal.

Dermal Therapy Consultation will cover your options for in-clinic treatments as well as a skincare routine.
