Wrinkle Treatments

We offer assessments and treatments to relax specific facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles.

Wrinkle Treatments

Whenever we laugh, frown or make facial expressions, our facial muscles contract and cause “dynamic wrinkles”.

When we are young, these wrinkles resolve when we relax the muscles, however as we age these wrinkles become increasingly pronounced and prominent, giving an older, more tired, stressed, anxious or angry look.

FAQ’s about wrinkle treatments

What do you mean by wrinkle treatments?

Australian Government restrictions mean that we can no longer give useful information about the specifics of how we treat wrinkles. There are a number of options available, and an assessment is essential to choose the most appropriate treatment for your circumstances. We take into account factors such as whether the wrinkles are dynamic (caused by muscle movement) or static (present when the face is at rest), as well as patient-specific factors such as your medical history, skin condition, and occupation. A consultation is required to give you specific individualised advice.

What does a wrinkle treatment involve?

Following an individual consultation with one of our doctors, it may be possible to address the appearance of dynamic wrinkles with a temporary treatment that can be performed on the day. However, some treatments would need to be arranged for a future date.can be addressed with a non-surgical procedure whereby a small amount of a medical product is administered directly into selected facial muscles using a very fine microneedle. Any discomfort felt is minimal and brief. Anaesthetic is not required.

How long does this treatment take?

This is a bespoke service where each client is different, however, a procedure to address the appearance of dynamic wrinkles will typically take 10-20 minutes. All our medical aesthetic treatments are done by one of our doctors.

What do I need to do after my treatment?

It is important that you do not lie down, or rub/touch the treated muscles for 4 hours after your treatment. This is to prevent accidental spread to surrounding muscles, which can lead to sub-optimal results.

Will this treatment affect my facial expressions?

Non-surgical procedures such as this are intended to enhance and refresh your looks. Treatment is intended to relax specific muscles to varying degrees. Since we tailor our treatments to each individual patient, the effects can be varied to suit your personal preference in terms of muscle movement. In other words, you don’t have to have the “frozen” look that was popular in the 1990s. Some facial muscles pull downwards, and tend to cause negative expressions such as a frown, whereas some muscles move our facial features upwards and these are the ones that tend to cause our more positive expressions. With a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy, a natural-look can be achieved by strategically altering the balance of muscles that pull in opposing directions. All of our cosmetic injectable treatments are performed by doctors, and we specialise in achieving balanced, harmonious results.

When will I see results and how long will the effect last?

On average, you will start to see results after 3-5 days, and the full effect is usually reached at 2 weeks.
This differs between individuals but typically the effects will initially last 3-4 months. If you choose not to have further treatments, your muscles will return to normal activity and your wrinkles will revert to their pre-treatment levels, i.e. the effect of the treatment will gradually wear off.

What are the side effects of treatments to address the appearance of wrinkles?

While you may experience no side effects at all, as with all medications, side effects can occur. The dose of medication used for facial lines is small and any side effects are usually temporary and localised to the area of injection. Possible side effects include headache, pain, burning/stinging, bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site, local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids/eyebrows, swollen eyelids, skin tightness, itching. A full description of potential side effects will be discussed at your consultation.

How much does this treatment cost?

All our cosmetic injectables are performed by highly qualified doctors, and therefore our prices can not be compared with those available from commercial chain clinics using nurse injectors.

We charge for the expertise and skill that comes from years of training. The fee for treatment covers the specific amount of product that is used as well as all the required paperwork, clinical photography and aftercare that is needed. We treat each client as an individual and therefore the amount of product needed will vary from person to person. It is not possible to give an accurate quote without seeing you in person.

Please note, consultation and treatment with Dr Sarah, our Medical Director, will be slightly higher than with our other Cosmetic Doctors.

Why can’t I find out more specific information about brands used at SkinBox?

We appreciate that the majority of our patients like to do significant amounts of research prior to coming in for an initial consultation, and it is likely that you are here seeking to understand these procedures more fully before committing the time to come in and meet with us in person. Unfortunately, the Australian Government have strict regulations about the “advertising” of cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures and of prescription medications. We are not legally allowed to state which brands of products we use, or give anything other than vague generalised information that is restricted in its educational content. This is because these treatments  are individualised medical procedures that can only take place after an appropriate consultation between patient and medical practitioner.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and frustration that this may cause, and assure you that as a medical clinic we adhere to all legal regulations and guidelines relating to your safety and outcomes.
