emsculpt and emsculpt neo treatment at skinbox in fremantle

Muscle conditioning, not just body sculpting

Emsculpt® and Emsculpt Neo® use electromagnetic energy to stimulate strong, involuntary muscle contractions in targeted areas such as the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms and calves.

At SkinBox, we use this technology with a functional-health focus. Treatment may be considered for patients who want to support muscle tone, muscle conditioning, abdominal strength or body composition goals, rather than focusing only on “body sculpting”.

Emsculpt® is not a replacement for exercise, nutrition, physiotherapy or medical care. It is best considered as an adjunct treatment for suitable patients, following consultation and assessment..

Weight-management support

Supporting muscle during body composition change

When people lose weight, the goal is usually to reduce fat while maintaining as much muscle and physical function as possible. Muscle health is important for strength, mobility, posture and metabolic wellbeing.

For suitable patients, Emsculpt® or Emsculpt Neo® may be used as part of a broader body-composition plan that includes appropriate nutrition, physical activity and medical supervision where required. It is not a weight-loss treatment and should not be relied upon instead of resistance training, a healthy eating pattern or medical advice.

Where fat reduction is a goal, we will discuss whether Emsculpt Neo® is appropriate, as well as the importance of ongoing lifestyle measures including physical activity and nutrition.

Core strength / back pain

Core strength and functional support

The abdominal and gluteal muscles play an important role in trunk support, posture and movement. For some patients, targeted muscle conditioning may be helpful as part of a broader plan to improve core function.

If you experience back discomfort, treatment suitability will depend on the cause of your symptoms. Emsculpt® is not a stand-alone treatment for back pain and does not replace physiotherapy, exercise rehabilitation or medical assessment. Where appropriate, we may recommend review by your GP, physiotherapist or another health professional before treatment.

Diastasis Recti

Abdominal separation / diastasis recti support

Some studies of high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation have reported a reduction in abdominal separation alongside increases in rectus abdominis muscle thickness. This may be relevant for selected patients with abdominal wall weakness or diastasis recti.

At SkinBox, assessment is important. We consider the degree of separation, symptoms, exercise tolerance, previous pregnancies, hernias, surgical history and whether physiotherapy or medical review is more appropriate. Emsculpt® may be considered as part of a broader abdominal-conditioning plan, but results vary and it is not suitable for everyone.

Fat Reduction

What about fat reduction?

Emsculpt Neo® may also support reduction in localised fat in suitable treatment areas. However, our focus is on overall body composition and muscle conditioning rather than weight loss alone.

Results vary between individuals and depend on factors such as treatment area, baseline muscle and fat distribution, lifestyle, medical history and the number of treatments performed.

Emsculpt®-Duo

Want to Sculpt with a friend*? Our Emsculpt® machines have two paddles and so for abdominal treatments it is possible to treat two people at once. Relax, lie back, watch some Netflix together or simply enjoy the company while your abs get a workout and you get to share the cost. Win win.

*the Duo option is only available for abdominal treatments as all other body parts require both paddles to be on a single person. When booking online – these appointments are under “Group Sessions”

FAQs about Emsculpt ®

How does Emsculpt ® work?

Original Emsculpt® uses High Intensity Focussed ElectroMagnetic energy (HIFEM) to depolarise motor neurones in the treatment area, causing the muscle fibres in the target muscles to contract.

With over 20,000 contractions in a typical treatment session, muscle fibres grow (hypertrophy) and multiply (hyperplasia), leading to an increase in muscle mass (up to 16% in clinical studies). Muscle contractions lead to a temporary hypermetabolic state and induces apotosis (destruction) of local fat cells. Studies have shown up to 19% reduction in fat in the treatment area, as well as a reduction in visceral fat (fat around the organs) when the abdominal area is treated.

Emsculpt Neo® adds in Radiofrequency to the HIFEM energy – gently and effectively heating up the target muscle for greater contractivity, whilst also directly targeting adipocytes (fat cells). Clinical studies show that 24,000 contractions in a typical session can lead to an average 30% fat reduction and 25% increase in muscle mass.

What body areas can be treated with Emsculpt®?

With the large applicator, we can help you achieve a slimmer and more athletic body contour, by reducing abdominal fat and simultaneously building the muscle foundations underneath the fat.
The applicators can be applied to the buttocks to give a more lifted, athletic looking, shaped and toned butt. It is the only non-invasive buttock lifting procedure in the world.
We can also use Emsculpt® to improve strength, muscle tone and firmness in the arms and calves thanks to the smaller cradle applicators, which are specifically designed for treating smaller muscle groups.

The Emsculpt Neo® can also be used on “muffin tops” and inner thighs. The large muscle groups in the thighs (quads and hamstrings) can also be targeted to enhance performance by increasing muscle bulk, or to maintain/improve muscle function during rehab periods.

Is Emsculpt® suitable for everyone?

No. A consultation is required to assess your goals, medical history and whether treatment is appropriate.

Treatment involves strong muscle contractions and may feel like an intense workout. Some patients experience temporary muscle soreness, fatigue or tenderness in the treated area. Emsculpt Neo® also uses radiofrequency energy, so warmth, redness or local discomfort may occur.

We will also check for contraindications, including relevant implants, electronic devices, pregnancy, hernia, recent surgery or other medical conditions that may make treatment unsuitable.

Emsculpt® is a body sculpting procedure and not a weight-loss technique. It is most successful when combined with regular exercise and healthy eating in patients with a BMI of 26 or less (original Emsculpt) or a BMI up to 35 (Emsculpt Neo®). You can work out your BMI here.

Because Emsculpt® works to increase muscle fibres, it is used by many high performance athletes around the world as part of their regular training schedule as well as during periods of rehab. It can also be used under medical supervision to improve posture, reduce back pain and assist muscle function for patients who struggle to exercise.

What is the difference between Emsculpt® and Emsculpt Neo®?

Watch our Medical Director, Dr. Sarah Boxley explain the differences between these two devices:

The main way in that Emsculpt Neo® differs from the original Emsculpt® is the technology it is using to deliver energy. Whereas Emsculpt® Original relies only on advanced HIFEM energy to tone up the muscles and achieve fat reduction, Emsculpt Neo® is a world-first treatment that combines this HIFEM technology with radiofrequency. It blends radiofrequency heat energy with HIFEM using a patented electrode that is found in no other body-contouring device.

This added heat boosts blood supply to muscles so they build up stronger and faster. It also heats layers of fat to a level that causes them to physically break down. The damaged fat cells are then metabolised by the body in a natural way, leading to permanent fat removal. This process mimics the effects of other body-sculpting treatments like fat freezing or Onda® microwave stimulation, which destroys fat in a similar temperature-controlled way, but without the muscle-building benefits.

This makes Emsculpt Neo® a standout treatment in the body-contouring world. In one 30-minute session, it contracts muscles up to 24,000 times. It also packs a greater fat loss and muscle building punch by burning 30% fat and enhancing muscle mass by 25% when measured 3 months post-treatment.

Another difference between the two devices is who we can treat with them – Emsculpt® Original is more suited to patients with less overall body fat (BMI <26), whereas Emsculpt Neo® can be used effectively in patients with a BMI of up to 35.

The expected results are slightly different due to the differing technologies:

  • Muscle: Emsculpt® Original increases muscle mass by 16%, while Emsculpt Neo® increases muscle mass by 25%.
  • Body fat: Emsculpt® Original helps patients to achieve 19% fat loss, with a 96% average patient satisfaction rate. Emsculpt Neo® helps to drive further fat loss in patients with more fat to remove by generating 30% fat reduction at 3 months post-treatment.
  • Skin: While body contouring is the main goal of both treatments, they also both offer some skin tightening benefits by reducing sagging pockets of fat and strengthening muscle tone.

Which should you choose?

Emsculpt Neo® is the industry-leader in combined fat reduction and muscle-toning; it is ideal for patients who want to redefine their bodies with maximum efficiency, meet sports performance goals or maximise their rehabilitation from injury. Its advanced ability to burn through fat also makes it an ideal choice for patients with a little more fat to shift.

Emsculpt® Original is a better treatment to choose if you have less of a severe fat reduction need. Patients who have pinchable areas of excess fat on their love handles for example, or a thin layer of fat obstructing their six-pack would be much better suited to the classic Emsculpt® treatment. If you exercise regularly, but want to give your physique a more sculpted and defined appearance, then Emsculpt® Original is better suited to your needs.

It will strengthen your muscles and core while helping you to break down the troublesome pockets of fat that may be obscuring your muscle strength and gym gains. If you have a BMI that doesn’t exceed 26, then you can opt for the original Emsculpt® treatment rather than Emsculpt Neo®.

Is Emsculpt® safe?

Both Emsculpt® and Emsculpt Neo® have been shown to be effective in multiple studies at treating both muscle and fat. Emsculpt® uses High Intensity Focussed ElectroMagnetic (HIFEM) energy, which is non-ionising and non-radiating. The current is low-frequency and does not cause heat. Studies show that the incidence of side effects is incredibly low.

Emsculpt Neo® uses HIFEM as well as Radiofrequency, which does generate some heat within the target tissue. The machine is continually monitoring the temperature of the tissues and will automatically stop if too much heat is detected. There is also a patient-controlled alert button to pause the treatment at any time if it feels uncomfortable.

Are there any contraindications?

You can not have Emsculpt® or Emsculpt Neo® treatment if you

  • Are pregnant
  • Have a pacemaker
  • Have a metal implant in or near the treatment area
  • Have had recent surgery in or near the treatment area

We recommend you avoid abdominal treatment if you are menstruating (i.e. just before or during the first few days of your period)

Emsculpt® is not designed as a weight-loss procedure and is most effective in patients with a BMI of 26 or less (Emsculpt®) or a BMI of up to 35 (Emsculpt Neo®)

Can Emsculpt® be combined with other treatments?

Yes! In fact, we offer combination packages where we can mix&match either Emsculpt® device with our Onda body-contouring treatment so that we can target fat reduction, cellulite, muscle tone and skin tightening. During your initial consultation with our experienced therapists, we will discuss your exact expectations and help tailor a specific treatment plan for you.

For those patients who are time-poor and expert at multitasking why not ask about our HydraSculpt option: Lie back and do 20,000 sit-ups whilst undergoing your Hydrafacial!

Is the Emsculpt® treatment painful?

Not at all! Treatment is painless – it feels like an easy yet intense workout. You can lay down and relax during the treatment. A standard treatment takes just 30 minutes and during that time you can chat with your therapist, watch Netflix, listen to some music, or combine your Emsculpt® body treatment with a simultaneous Hydrafacial (this is our HydraSculpt: perfect for time-poor multitaskers!)

Can I have Emsculpt® after pregnancy?

Yes, Emsculpt® or Emsculpt Neo® are an ideal treatment for postpartum concerns and in fact is very useful for diastasis recti, to help tone and close the separation of the muscles. For abdominal Emsculpt® treatments, we recommend that you wait at least 2 weeks after a vaginal delivery or 6 weeks after a Caesarean delivery.

The pelvic floor muscles can be specifically targeted after pregnancy with the Emsella® chair, which can non-invasively improve the strength and tone of the pelvic floor, reducing symptoms such as stress incontinence.

You can combine these two treatments as a “core and floor” package.

Is there any downtime or pre/post treatment care?

Compared to other procedures, there is absolutely no downtime with Emsculpt®. After
the treatment it feels like you had an amazing workout, and you can get back to work immediately following the procedure. We advise you drink plenty of water after your treatment, as you would after a workout or an intense massage.

When will I see results?

This may vary depending on your age, physical condition, BMI and many other aspects. In general patients begin to feel tangible results right after the treatment. Positive results are usually reported two to four weeks after the last session and continue to improve for several weeks following treatment with Emsculpt® Original.

With the Emsculpt Neo®, results continue to improve for 2 months after the end of the 4 sessions, with maximal results being seen at 3 months from the start of your treatment course. Results are sustained for 12-18 months.

How many treatments will I need?

Emsculpt® Original: The minimum recommended treatment course is 4 treatments over 1-2 weeks. This can be extended depending upon your personal needs, and maintenance treatments are also available. Treatments should be at least 24hrs apart.

Emsculpt Neo®: The minimum recommended treatment course is 4 treatments over 4 weeks, spaced 5-10 days apart. It is important that the muscle gets a chance to rest between treatments to maximise the growth of muscle fibres. It is possible to repeat the course of 4 treatments as often as every 3 months but more frequent use is not recommended.

How much does Emsculpt® cost?

A single Emsculpt® session costs $270. Emsculpt® treatments can be purchased in packages of 4 or 8 depending upon your needs and the number of body areas to be treated. The minimum recommended number of treatments per area is 4.

  • Package of 4 treatments = $950
  • Package of 8 treatments = $1720

We also offer combination packages with Onda Body Contouring for those patients who also require more fat reduction, improvement in cellulite or skin tightening – please ask your therapist for an individual quote.

Our Emsculpt®-Duo option allows you to split the cost of a treatment with a friend/partner (abdomen only) as two patients can be treated simultaneously.

How much does Emsculpt Neo® cost?

The recommended number of treatments per body area Emsculpt Neo® is 4, spaced 5-10 days apart.

  • Single treatment = $450
  • Package of 4 treatments (one body area) = $1500 (save $300)
  • Package of 8 treatments (two body areas) = $2250 (save $1350)

Our Neo®-Duo option allows you to split the cost of a treatment with a friend/partner (abdomen only) as two patients can be treated simultaneously.

Or if you are concentrating on your pelvic floor, our Neo® Core & Floor option offers 4 Emsculpt Neo® abdominal treatments + 6 Emsella® treatments for $2300 (save $1000)

How do I book in?

If you have no contraindications for treatment and know you would like to proceed, you can purchase a session or treatment pack directly online and book straight in for your first session, which will include a consultation before treatment starts. At your first session, your therapist will schedule the remainder of your treatments to suit your calendar, or these can be booked online at your convenience. If online bookings are not your thing – call our Patient Coordinators on (08) 6215 8898 and they will be able to schedule an appointment for you.

If you are not sure whether this procedure is suitable for you, you can book in for a short consultation appointment to find out more. Please note that this consultation will be to discuss body contouring options only and no treatment will be performed.

What happens at my first appointment?

If you have purchased a package of sessions, your initial appointment will include a consultation, assessment and your first treatment. Before commencing your treatment, we will take some body measurements and clinical photographs of the body area to be treated. These form part of your medical record and will be kept private as per our Clinic Privacy Policy. You will need to be undressed to your underwear (or bathers) for these photographs. These photos will be repeated at the end of your course of treatment. It is preferable to wear the same plain black or white underwear for consistency of photographs, as this makes it easiest to compare your Before & After images.

During the treatment, you can lie back and watch Netflix, listen to some music or chat with your therapist (or with your friend if you are in a Duo session). Your subsequent appointments will be scheduled in at this time, and it is recommended to have 2-3 sessions a week for Emsculpt® Original, 1 session a week for Emsculpt Neo®

Is Emsculpt® a weight-loss treatment?

No. Emsculpt® and Emsculpt Neo® are not weight-loss treatments. They are used to support targeted muscle conditioning and, in some patients, localised body-composition changes. For weight-management goals, treatment should sit alongside appropriate nutrition, physical activity and medical support.

Can Emsculpt help preserve muscle during medical weight management?

It may be considered as an adjunct to support targeted muscle conditioning during periods of body-composition change. However, it does not replace resistance training, adequate nutrition or medical care. We will assess whether it is appropriate as part of your broader plan.

Can Emsculpt® help with back pain?

Emsculpt® may help condition abdominal or gluteal muscles in suitable patients, which can be relevant to posture and movement. However, back pain has many possible causes, and Emsculpt® is not a stand-alone treatment for back pain. Assessment is required.

Can Emsculpt treat diastasis recti?

Some studies have reported reductions in abdominal separation after HIFEM treatment, but results vary. Emsculpt® may be considered for selected patients as part of an abdominal-conditioning plan, often alongside physiotherapy or exercise rehabilitation.

We understand that the world of aesthetics and cosmetic treatments can be intimidating, that’s why our cosmetic doctors and qualified dermal therapists are here.
