Pre-filler Guide

Tips to minimise side effects and ensure you are safe to proceed with your dermal filler appointment on the procedure day

Dermal Filler pre-procedure instructions

Please ensure that you have read and followed these instructions prior to your dermal filler appointment. These are intended to minimise the risk of potential side effects such as bruising, infection and immune response.

BRUISING: Any cosmetic procedure carries a small risk of bruising. Whilst we always try to minimise this with our injection techniques, there are a number of things you can do to help:

For 2 weeks prior to your procedure please avoid the following:

  • Anchovies
  • Anti-inflammatories including aspirin (unless medically necessary)
  • Fish / krill / omega oils
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Ginseng
  • Guarana
  • Glucosamine
  • Salmon – fresh or smoked
  • Turmeric
  • Vitamin E supplements
  • Wine & Cider

Although there is only limited evidence of effectiveness, oral arnica or bromelain for 5 days prior to your procedure may reduce the extent of any bruising. These can be purchased from any good chemist or health food store. Take the recommended dose (this differs between brands).

DENTAL WORK: Please do not have any dental work (including cleaning with your dental hygienist) for 2 weeks before & after your dermal filler procedure.

VACCINATIONS: Please avoid having a vaccination of any sort for 3 weeks prior to your filler procedure, and for 2 weeks afterwards.

ILLNESS: You can’t have dermal filler if you are acutely unwell in any way, having a flare-up of an autoimmune disease or are taking antibiotics for an infection. Please disclose any medical issues so that we can plan your treatment as safely as possible.

MAKEUP: Please do not wear any makeup other than mascara to your procedure appointment.

CANCELLATIONS: Please advise us within 24hrs if you are unable to attend your procedure appointment to avoid incurring a non-attendance fee. This allows us to offer your appointment to another patient from our waitlist. Please see here for our cancellation policy
