Exciting News for Women’s Health

What the Latest Government Announcement Means for You at SkinBox

Over the weekend, the Australian Government made a significant announcement—more funding will be allocated to improving healthcare access for women of all ages across the country. This is a huge win for women’s health, and it brings plenty of exciting changes that can benefit you. At SkinBox, we’re especially thrilled about how these new initiatives will impact your care, especially if you’re dealing with hormonal acne, menopause, or perimenopause.

Here’s what these changes mean for you:

Hormonal Acne? We’ve Got You Covered!

If you’ve been struggling with hormonal acne, help is on the way. Starting March 1st, 2025, more affordable options for the combined contraceptive pill will be available through the PBS. The combined contraceptive pill can be an effective treatment for acne, as it regulates hormones that often cause breakouts.

With the new funding, the cost of the pill will drop by up to 1/3, and for those with a concession card, the price will be even lower. This means easier access to a treatment that could make a significant difference in your skin. There are many variations of the combined contraceptive pill, each with different doses of estrogen and progestogen. Some of these formulations are especially helpful for managing hormonal acne. If you think this could be the solution for you, let’s talk! We’re here to guide you through the options and get you on the path to clearer skin. Of course, there are many other options for managing acne that don’t involve medication – at SkinBox your acne journey will be tailored to your specific needs.

Perimenopause & Menopause: Transition with Support

For women aged 45-55, perimenopause is something to be aware of, as it’s the stage before menopause when hormone levels begin to fluctuate. In Australia, the average age of menopause is 51, but some women may experience it earlier, before the age of 45.

Here’s the good news: You may now qualify for an increased Medicare rebate, from July 1st 2025, for menopause health assessments. This makes it more affordable than ever to ensure that you’re transitioning smoothly into this new phase of life.

Additionally, there’s more good news for women who may be considering Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT). Thanks to the new funding, some body-identical hormones and other forms of MHT will be included on the PBS from March 1st 2025, meaning you’ll pay just $31.60 per month (or $7.70 with a concession card) for this life-changing treatment. MHT is a highly effective way to manage the symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood changes, as well as lowering risk of chronic diseases like osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and dementia.

If you’re interested in learning more about menopause or MHT, we’re here to help guide you through your options and ensure you’re supported every step of the way.

Managing Perimenopause Symptoms with an IUD

Many women experience irregular or heavy bleeding during perimenopause. If that sounds like you, an intrauterine device (IUD) might be an excellent option to manage your symptoms. In addition to its use for contraception, an IUD can be used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding, and it can even be used alongside estrogen therapy to manage menopausal symptoms.

Thanks to the recent changes, there will be an increase in Medicare rebates for IUD insertion and removal, making it a more affordable treatment option. IUDs are long-lasting (up to 5-10 years, depending on your treatment plan), and we are now offering IUD insertion and removal services at SkinBox as part of our comprehensive approach to menopause care.

If you’re considering an IUD or want to learn more about how it can help with your symptoms, we’re happy to discuss the options available and help you make an informed decision.
