Understanding Menopause

Empowering Women with Knowledge and Support

If you’re biologically female, menopause is a reality you’ll eventually face. For simplicity, I’m including perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause under one umbrella term. While this phase is inevitable, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Not every woman experiences severe symptoms during this transition, but menopause is so much more than hot flashes (which, by the way, are becoming more intense with each generation1), insomnia, mood swings, and recurrent urinary tract infections. These are just some of the more commonly discussed symptoms, but the full list goes much deeper.

What often gets overlooked is the significant connection between menopause and serious long-term health conditions such as cardiovascular disease2, osteoporosis, and dementia3. These conditions can have a profound impact on a woman’s health and overall longevity, yet they’re rarely discussed in detail. The timing of initiating hormonal therapy also matters and too often, women are not having the conversation early enough to get the full benefit of intervention4.

One of the biggest challenges women face is the lack of proper education surrounding this major life phase. Many women rely on anecdotal stories from friends and family, get misinformed by social media, or struggle to navigate the complexities of evidence-based medical advice. Worse yet, some women either suffer in silence or are dismissed by healthcare providers who may not have specialized knowledge on menopause management.

That’s where we come in.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read Dr. Sarah’s insightful blog post on Perimenopause and Beyond to learn more about the menopause journey, the wide range of symptoms it brings, and how this transition is relevant to medical aesthetics at SkinBox.

And if you’re in a place where you’re embracing your appearance but are curious about how menopause might impact you physically, mentallly & visually, and when might be the right time to address your concerns linked to menopause, we’d love for you to come in and have an open, informative conversation. Just select Menopause – Initial Consultation in the online booking system.

I look forward to meeting you!
