FAQs about Emface®
How does Emface® work?
Two energy types are delivered simultaneously through the skin via adhesive pads on the forehead and cheeks. The radiofrequency (RF) heats the skin and muscle to around 40degrees, improving skin quality and warming the muscles. The HIFES energy causes specific muscles of the face to contract, strengthen and grow in size, leading to a lifting effect.
It is important to note that the facial applicators do NOT reduce fat, whereas the submental (chin) applicator heats the subcutaneous layer to a temperature where fat reduction is expected.
Which facial muscles is Emface® targeting?
The Emface® pads are positioned on your face to specifically and only target the frontalis (forehead) muscle that raises the brows, and three muscles that are responsible for lifting the mid face & mouth corners – zygomaticus major, zygomaticus minor and risorius. Other facial muscles are not affected.
The Emface® Submental applicator is now available to specifically target the digastric muscles and the fat pad underneath the chin. This can be used alone or in conjunction with one of the facial applicator sets. The most common combination to address lower face contouring is cheeks+submental.
It is not possible to use all 3 sets of applicators at the same time.
Is the treatment painful?
Not at all. This is a non-invasive treatment that involves no needles. You will feel a warm sensation and some comfortable twitching of the muscles during the treatment. The submental applicator tends to feel slightly more intense than the facial treatment as the heat level is higher.
How long does the treatment take?
A single Emface® treatment takes 20-30 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
It is recommended to have a set of 4 treatments, spaced approximately a week apart. Results peak at 3 months (8weeks after the end of the treatment set) and are expected to last at least 12 months based on clinical trial data. Single maintenance treatments are available.
Is there any downtime?
Emface® involves no needles and is non-invasive, therefore bruising and swelling are not an issue. Your skin may be slightly flushed immediately after the treatment for a few hours.
Can I have Emface® if I am also having medical treatment for wrinkles?
Yes you can! Even if you are having Medical Aesthetics treatments to your forehead, you will still benefit from Emface® treatment to improve the resting size of the muscle, which can help to elevate the brows without the muscle activating. We recommend waiting for 2 weeks after an injectable medical aesthetics treatment before having an Emface® treatment. Please chat to us at your consultation or call the clinic for advice.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes, you will need to speak with one of our Dermal Therapists prior to your first treatment to ensure that you are suitable for this treatment. It is usually possible to have your first treatment on the day if you wish. To make an online booking please click here and then go to either section 1. Are there any contraindications to Emface®?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to have this treatment if you are pregnant, have uncontrolled epilepsy or some cardiac disorders, if you have any permanent metal accessories or implants near the treatment area, if you have a pacemaker or other electronic implant elsewhere in the body, if you have had any surgery or trauma to the treatment area in the previous 3 months, or if you have had certain Medical Aesthetic treatments in the area within the previous 2 weeks.
How much does Emface® cost?
We recommend a full set of 4 treatments at weekly intervals for maximum results, for which the RRP is $3599. Please contact the clinic directly for prices for different areas or for single treatment costs.
